Want to Learn More than Just How to Say I Love You in Italian?
Of course you should learn more than just “I love you” before your trip to Italy. So here are a few resources you can use to learn a little bit of the language before your trip!
Coffee Break Italian
By far, my favorite way to learn Italian is through Coffee Break Italian. They have a free series of podcasts that you can listen and practice along to. What I love about it is that they teach you words and phrases that you will actually use while you are visiting Italy. How to say I love you in Italian is obviously useful for saying to your travel partners, but this podcast teaches you the common phrases like “please” and “thank you” and how to order off a menu.
I also love that it’s in podcast format. This means you can learn while you are doing something else. Have a daily drive into the office? Working out at the gym? Crafting? Gardening? Anything like that would make for a perfect time to turn on Coffee Break Italian.
They also offer courses online if you want to take your learning even further!
Duolingo
Another great (and fun) way to learn more than how to say I love you in Italian is through the Duolingo App! The app has endless lessons, games, and practice sessions to learn the Italian language.
What I love about Duolingo is that it makes it fun. It’s more than just listening and repeating, it puts the words into different sentences, and helps you practice in a variety of ways.
However, the words and phrases you learn are a little more similar to what you would find in language class in school. They start with basic words for things like boy, girl, apple, cat, things like that. It’s not quite as helpful for your trip to Italy unless you get very deep into the courses.
Also, you have to have undivided attention to learn with the app, since you actually type in and read using Duolingo.
Learning languages, even a few phrases, before you visit a country is such an important part of travel. It allows you to better immerse yourself into the culture and the locals appreciate the effort so much.
I walked into the coffee shop the first morning of our trip in Rome and said proudly, “Un cappuccino por favore!” to the barista and he had the biggest grin on his face. I’m sure my pronunciation was horrible, but he was just so impressed that I was attempting to speak their language unlike the majority of other tourists he saw each day.
So whether you’re planning on visiting big cities, or small towns, learning Italian and how to say I love you in Italian is important before you leave for your trip.
