Ahhh the beloved summer beach vacation. You look forward to your time relaxing with your toes in the sand and staring out at the calming waters. But after a while, the same beach each year gets a little old. You probably want something a little more tropical, a little more exciting.

So try someplace new and plan your next beach getaway at one of these best beaches with clear water around the world. These travel bloggers share their favorite clear water beaches with me and oh my they are epic. The photos will blow you away, you’ll have trouble deciding which to visit first!

I’ll start with my favorite of the beaches with clear water, let’s go to Hawaii!

What to Pack when Visiting these Beaches with Clear Water

While all of these beaches are incredibly unique, one thing is the same, the essentials for your packing list!  Here’s some of my must-haves when visiting these beautiful beaches with clear water.

Teema Towel: This Turkish Towel is the one thing I bring with me on every single trip I take, but especially necessary for the beach! It folds up super small, dries fast and doesn’t collect sand. The Teema brand specifically is by far the best quality, as it is super soft and durable. Plus I use it for everything. Obviously it’s great as a beach or pool towel, but I also use it as a blanket on the plane, a picnic blanket, sarong, and more. It’s the best purchase you can make for your next vacation!

Sunscreen: This is an obvious necessity. But this particular bottle of sunscreen is TSA compliant and is reef-safe!

Sun Hat: The sun is strong in most of these locations, so protect your face with a hat!

Snorkel Gear: Many of these beaches with clear water are great for snorkeling. Bring your snorkel gear along with you and be ready to spot the beautiful fish!

North American Beaches with Clear Water

1. Lanikai Beach, Hawaii, USA

Located on the island of Oahu, Lanikai Beach is easily one of the most beautiful beaches with clear water in the whole world. It’s famous for its islands (the Mokulua islands) that sit just off the coast and make the photos extra incredible, therefore making your friends extra jealous. They’ll wish they were there too. But the icing on the cake is the crystal clear waters you’ll be swimming in. And since you’re in Hawaii, the water is warm year round, perfect for splashing in the waves and taking in some of that sunshine.

Every time we visit Oahu we have to visit Lanikai Beach. We went most recently on our babymoon in Hawaii! It’s about a 35 minute drive from Honolulu or Waikiki and is one of the best things to do while on the island. There’s even a hike that looks out over the crystal clear waters that is one of the best sunrise hikes on Oahu!

Stop in the town of Kailua on the way to pick up beach chairs, a cooler, drinks and poke to spend the day relaxing in the sand. The beach is located in a residential neighborhood so be extremely respectful to the locals by following all parking rules. They change often so be sure to look up the rules before you go.

Because the beach is far from the busy tourist area of Waikiki, it’s remained remarkably quiet here. Every time we have been, there are very few people to share the beach with. It’s quite the change from busy Waikiki. So plan to spend the whole day relaxing and enjoying the tranquility of one of the best beaches with clear water in the US and around the world. But whatever you do, bring plenty of sunscreen!

2. Staniel Cay, Exuma, Bahamas

Staniel Cay in the Exuma Islands of the Bahamas offers some of the best beaches with clear water worldwide. Located 75 miles south of Nassau, Staniel Cay is a small island home to a little over 100 full-time residents. The easiest way to get to Staniel Cay is by taking a commercial flight straight to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and booking a separate trip on Maker’s Air, which takes passengers directly to the island.

The weather on Staniel Cay tends to stay perfect year-round, with average highs ranging from the upper 70s°F to mid 80s°F and average lows in the lower 70s°F. Remember that hurricane season starts in June and goes through November, so The Exumas receive the most rain in summertime.

Embrace Resort is the best accommodation on Staniel Cay, and the Staniel Cay Yacht Club is a great place to enjoy delicious meals and have a great time!

The best beach on Staniel Cay is Pirate Trap Beach. It boasts powdery white sand to sunbathe and crystalline waters to enjoy a nice swim and snorkel.

The best way to get to this beautiful cove is to take your golf cart, park it at the top of the bluff, and walk down to the beach. One of the best things to do during a vacation to Staniel Cay is to do a boat tour around The Exumas.

During a boat tour, especially through Embrace Resort, you could explore Thunderball Grotto, where two James Bond movies were filmed; say hi to the famous pigs on Big Major Cay; test your bravery by swimming with the sharks at Compass Cay; enjoy one of the many sand bars; see the iguanas at Bitter Guana Cay, and discover the Sunken Drug Plane off Norman’s Cay.

3. Cayo Santa Maria, Cuba

When it comes to clear water beaches around the world, nothing beats Cuba. The beautiful Caribbean island is an absolute paradise for beach lovers! One of the best ones is located on the northern coast of Cuba, near the small town of Remedios.

You can get there with a taxi from Remedios or fly directly to Cayo las Brujas if you choose to stay in one of the resorts. Cayo Santa Maria is a small island with loads of clear water beaches. I recommend you first head to Las terrazas. It’s one of the best beaches in the area. Here you can expect crystal clear water and white sand. The water is also very warm which is extremely pleasant.

But the best thing about this beach is that there is a restaurant / bar and you can get some cocktails such as the classic mojitos. The beach is equipped with loungers and umbrellas as well, making it both comfortable and pretty in photos.

Later on during the day, make sure to go to Las Gaviotas. It’s another beach on Cayo Santa Maria that has incredibly blue clear water. This one is more wild and preserved, the water is shallow and the sand as white as it gets. It’s a bit off the beaten path and a lot of visitors don’t actually bother going there but it’s one of the most beautiful beaches with clear water in Cuba and definitely worth the effort.

4. Playa Carrizalillo, Puerto Escondido Oaxaca, Mexico

Located on the Pacific coast of Oaxaca where the mountains meet the ocean, Puerto Escondido is known as a top surfing destination. But you don’t have to be a surfer to enjoy this Mexican beach town. There are a variety of beaches to visit and things to do in Puerto Escondido for non surfers as well.

If you’re searching for one of the best beaches with clear water, you’ll need to descend the 150 steps to Playa Carrizalillo (totally worth it, I promise). Its golden sand and blue water are lined by large cliffs with towering palm trees to create a stunning scene.

Located in the neighborhood of Rinconada, Playa Carrizalillo is a short walk or taxi ride from other areas of Puerto Escondido. I recommend bringing minimal items with you since you’ll have to climb up the steps when you leave. But it’s important to note that you won’t find a lot of shade at Playa Carrizalillo other than under the umbrellas at the beachside restaurants.

The weather in Puerto Escondido could be described as hot and humid. In the summer months the rain, humidity, and threat of hurricanes increases. Since it’s located in Southern Mexico, the water temperature stays consistently warm throughout the year.

The best way to get to Puerto Escondido is a non-stop flight from major cities in Mexico, such as Monterrey, Guadalajara, and Mexico City. Alternatively, you can take a bus along the windy mountain roads or fly in a small plane from Oaxaca City.

5. Chac Mool Beach, Cancun, Mexico

Chac Mool Beach is a tropical haven located on the stunning coastline of Cancún, Mexico. This beach has soft, white sand, palm-tree lined streets, and of course, crystal-clear water. 

It is located in the bustling hotel zone in Punta Cancun and runs about 1 mile along the coast. You can get there in a number of different ways, including rideshare services or hotel shuttles. Also, given that the beach is only about 8 miles from downtown Cancun, you can catch one of the many buses that stop at the beach’s entrance.

Because of the intense waves in this area, it’s a great spot for surfing, water skiing, and sailing. But that also means you shouldn’t jump in the water unless you’re a strong swimmer.

Now, if you don’t consider yourself the surfing type, no problem. Chac Mool Beach is also the perfect place for couples seeking a romantic getaway or travelers who need some downtime. With the sun on your face, a cold drink in your hand, and the breeze coming off the Caribbean sea, there’s no better place to rest and recharge.

Nearby, you can find a variety of restaurants, clubs, and beachfront bars. This is great for folks looking to savor the delicious Mexican cuisine and enjoy refreshing cocktails. Additionally, amenities like restrooms and beach chairs are readily available.

The weather in Cancun during the summer months is pretty hot. Temperatures are usually in the low to mid-90s and humid. Travelers like to visit from December to February when the weather is a bit more mild (mid 80s).

Honestly, all you really need to bring is some sunscreen and a good attitude, Choc Mool Beach will supply the rest! It’s one of the best beaches with clear water in the world!

6. Ocho Rios, Jamaica

Jamaica is known as a tropical paradise for its stunning coastline and sandy white clear water beaches. As part of our 7 days in Jamaica, we stayed at the all-inclusive Beaches resort in Ocho Rios. It was a good pick for its central location, private beach, and several restaurant choices on the premises.  Jamaica is a year round destination except for the hurricane season. December to April is the peak time to visit Jamaica because it is the dry season.

The resort beach is excellent with fine sand and clear water. There is a marked shallow water area that is safe for young children in the ocean. You can laze at one of the deck chairs all day and gaze at the ocean waves coming at you. Or indulge in many water sports available: kayaking for the fit, banana boat ride for a crazy thrill, and a sailing boat for the adventurer. 

I went for an early morning walk on this beach and was surprised to find a common beach strip that extends endlessly. Across several private beach resorts (with enough distance between the main beach areas) and then finally to a public beach area with a few shacks.

7. Shoal Bay, Anguilla

If you’re looking for a relaxed, tropical island vibe plus some of the whitest sand and clearest water beach you’ve ever seen, Shoal Bay might be the perfect beach for you. Located on the Caribbean island of Anguilla, Shoal Bay’s azure waters, tinged with shades of turquoise and deep blue, are a true gem.

Its gentle waves and exceptional visibility make it perfect for swimming and snorkeling and a very safe beach for young kids and inexperienced swimmers as well. With average temperatures ranging from 80-90°F (27-32°C) the beach is a perfect place for sunbathing or to enjoy watersports such as kayaking and paddleboarding.

Have a cocktail or some lunch in one of the beach bars, relax and unwind. And if you need a great location for a photoshoot, Shoal Bay is a popular location for that as well because of its stunning beauty.

To get to Shoal Bay you’ll first have to travel to Anguilla. You can fly into Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport or take a ferry from St. Maarten to reach Anguilla. From there, a short taxi or car ride gets you to Shoal Bay, where you can park right behind the beach.

8. Tunnels Beach, Kauai, Hawaii, USA

Tunnels Beach, on the northern shore of Kauai, is one of the world’s most beautiful beaches with clear water. With the jagged green cliffs of Mount Makana towering above and crystal clear turquoise water, it’s amazing!

Because of the water’s incredible clarity and the interesting underwater topography here, the beach offers some of the best snorkeling and scuba diving in Kauai. There’s tons of colorful tropical fish that swim around its reef and even sea turtles have been known to hang out in the underwater caves here. 

The beach’s waves tend to get a bit rough, come winter, but then, you can enjoy another activity here—surfing!

There’s no parking lot for Tunnels Beach—you’ll actually need to park in the Ha’ena Beach lot and walk about half a mile east along the shoreline. Not to worry though—there’s usually a shave ice truck parked near Ha’ena Beach, which is the perfect treat to keep you occupied during your walk.

Between its relatively remote location and the fact that its bay is surrounded by lush palm and ironwood trees, Tunnels truly feels it’s a secluded paradise. To really see Kauai at its most stunning, be sure to come to Tunnels at sunset- it’s absolutely breathtaking!

9. Balandra Bay, Mexico

Balandra Bay is one of the most beautiful beaches with clear water in Mexico because of its desert landscape, clear water, and protected status. It is a major attraction drawing both national and international tourism to the region.

Baja California Sur is one of the least populated states in Mexico. With wide open spaces, dramatic desert landscapes contrast with the white sand beaches, turquoise blue water, and fiery sunsets.

The beach at Balandra is safe to swim year-round because there are no waves. It is a bay within the larger La Paz Bay within the Gulf of California. Large surf has a tendency to stir up the sand but Balandra’s stillness allows the sediment to rest on the bottom. The water is so clear you can see all the sand bars lining the bay.

Located just 30 minutes from the state capital of La Paz, Balandra is a protected area. There are no hotels or developments in the bay. It is day use only.

Balandra is a very popular beach and the parking lot is relatively small. I recommend getting here early because there are capacity limits. During the summer it gets really hot at midday anyway. In the winter, the water is brisk but not cold. You can swim year-round without a wetsuit.

There are no restaurants on the beach so make sure to bring enough food and water for the day. And don’t forget to pack your trash. It is rare to see trash on the beach but if you do see trash lying about, do your part to leave Balandra Bay better than you found it.

10. Destin, Florida, USA

Destin is home to some of the most beautiful Florida Gulf Coast beaches. It’s everything you’ve dreamed of, powdery soft white sand and clear emerald green waters. 

Located in Florida’s panhandle, the closest airport to Destin is the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport. It’s a 16-mile drive from the airport to Destin. 

Destin is a wonderful destination for a Florida getaway year-round. The weather is dependably beautiful, but temperature and humidity will fluctuate slightly throughout the year. Winter brings the coolest temperatures, where the weather is still warm, but may not be comfortable to enjoy the water. 

Aside from playing on the beach, jet-skiing, and parasailing, your family will love kayaking in the Crab Island area or going ghost-crabbing late at night at Henderson Beach State Park. We also love all the snorkeling and dolphin-watching tours that are offered here. Destin is full of memorable outdoor adventures! 

Our top recommendation when planning a trip to Destin is to make sure you have access to a vehicle. Whether you drive to Destin in your own personal vehicle or rent one after flying into town, having your own mode of transportation will help you experience the town with ease on your own schedule. Many of the public beaches feature parking areas. And don’t forget to bring all your favorite beach essentials!

Central and South American Beaches with Clear Water

11. Cas Abao Beach, Curacao

Cas Abao Beach in Curacao is one of the most beautiful beaches with clear water in the world, offering crystal clear blue water and stunning white sand.

The water quality is insanely good, you can see schools of fish and corals without a snorkel. The water is also quite calm, so it is a great beach for children and beginner snorkelers. I find it to be one of the best beaches in Curacao, especially for water sports. 

You can best reach Cas Abao Beach by car, it is quite far out west in Curacao. It has a big parking space. At the entrance, you need to pay a fee of a couple of dollars for you and your car. It is also possible to rent beach chairs and showers. 

Another way to reach Cas Abao Beach is with a snorkel boat tour, it is one of the most popular snorkel spots on the island. Many tour providers stop there for an hour or two of beachside bliss. 

The weather is great in Curacao year-round. It is located outside of the hurricane belt, so there is no bad time to go to Curacao. Even in the rainy season (September – December) the weather is pretty stable, apart from a couple of showers per week.

12. Arraial do Cabo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Arraial do Cabo is known amongst Brazilians as the Caribbean of Rio, and it is easy to understand why. The water color of the beaches around Arraial do Cabo are incredibly clear. Combine this with clear white sand and untouched nature, you have some of the best beaches with clear water you could possibly find.

The most famous beach of Arraial do Cabo is called “Pontal do Atalaia”. What makes this beach so special is the long staircase leading to it, ending in crystal blue waters. Even though the climb up from the beach can be quite tiring due to the amount of steps, the way down is a delight.

Arraial do Cabo is only 3h away from Rio de Janeiro and it is a perfect weekend trip destination. Pontal do Atalaia beach can be reached by land or by boat. When coming by land, you will have to park the car on the side of the road at the top of the staircase. There are not many spots available, so taking a taxi from the city center can be a good alternative.

The best time of the year to visit Rio and Arraial do Cabo is during the summer (November-March). The water in Arraial do Cabo is typically cold, even during the summer when the weather temperature can hit 35-40o Celsius. On the other hand, the cold water brings many turtles and fish close to the shore, which makes Pontal do Atalaia the perfect snorkeling spot.

13. Eagle Beach, Aruba

Eagle Beach in Aruba has garnered numerous accolades and recognition, consistently ranking on TripAdvisor’s World’s Best Beaches list and being recognized as the top beach in both the Caribbean and the world.

The moment I set foot on Eagle Beach in Aruba, I was completely spellbound. Its soft white sand felt gentle under my bare feet, while the crystal clear turquoise waters sparkled in the sun’s brilliance.

The consistent warm breeze at Eagle Beach is more than just a weather phenomenon, it’s part of the overall beach experience. This consistent soft wind gently brushes against your skin, making even the hottest days feel comfortable and inviting.

There are plenty of other things to do at Eagle Beach in Aruba besides sun and sand. There you will find beach bars, top restaurants such as my favorites Passions on the Beach and the Screaming Eagle, and also resorts that cater to various tastes and preferences.

Finding parking at Eagle Beach is not a problem! The beach offers ample parking for visitors, ensuring that you are able to easily find a spot for your vehicle. And if you want to escape the sun and relax in the shade, there are plenty of shaded areas available where you can set up a picnic or simply unwind on this stunning clear water beach.

14. Playa Blanca, Cartagena, Colombia

Ah, Playa Blanca! Just saying the name transports me to a paradise of dazzling white sand and crystal-clear water. It’s no surprise that this beach is renowned as one of the world’s finest, boasting crystal-clear waters that span the globe!

Located in the picturesque Isla Baru, this beach is only a short 45-minute drive south of Cartagena. Getting there is an adventure in itself, with three options to choose from.

Renting a car and going solo is a choice for those who love a road trip. The ride is smooth, plus you have the freedom to stop whenever you want to admire the scenic views.

The second option is to use public bus transportation – an economical and eco-friendly choice. Busses are frequent and reliable, but they do require a bit of patience.

Let me tell you, the last yet best option is undoubtedly the tour. The tour guides are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, ensuring a comfortable and hassle-free journey. And you often meet other travelers and make new friends along the way.

Playa Blanca is a year-round destination, thanks to its tropical climate, but the best period to visit is between December and April when the weather is at its finest. During this period, expect lots of sunshine, blue skies, and a slight, refreshing breeze – the perfect recipe for a beach day!

Don’t forget to pack your snorkeling gear! The clear water provides stunning visibility for exploring the vibrant marine life.

Also, remember to bring cash. The local vendors and street merchants offer amazing fresh seafood and local crafts, but they only accept cash. So come prepared to support the local economy and enjoy the charming simplicity of Playa Blanca, one of the best beaches with clear water around the globe.

15. Carcass Bay, Falkland Islands

The Falkland Islands certainly don’t come across as a beach holiday destination, what with the cold weather, strong winds and rain they get throughout the year. But who said you can only enjoy a beach when it’s sunny and hot? Indeed, there are incredible beaches with clear water in the Falkland Islands. 

My favorite is by far Carcass Bay, near Fox Bay in West Falklands. This is a magnificent, long beach with the softest, thinnest and whitest sand you can imagine, and incredibly clear waters that are however too cold to swim. 

There are no real roads in the West Falklands, just tracks that only locals seem to be able to follow with their off-road vehicles. So, the only way to get to Carcass Bay is via a hike of about 8 km (5 miles). It took me about 2.5 hours to hike there from The Gap, the trailhead which is found at a bridge located roughly 10 km (6.2 miles) from Fox Bay.

The views along the hike are stunning: I walked along a Rockhopper penguin rookery, and once I got to the beach I could spot more penguins (mostly Magellanic) and sea lions, along with many sheep that populate the island and that are free to roam.

There is nothing in terms of services along the trail – I brought my own lunch and water, and applied sunblock throughout the hike to protect my skin from the sun and the strong wind.

16. Tobacco Caye, Belize

Home to only 15 permanent inhabitants, Tobacco Caye is my Caribbean dream come true. Even though the island is walkable in 10 minutes, I wanted to linger much longer. The beach’s crystal clear waters can best be enjoyed swimming off the piers or snorkeling. The Caye and its surroundings are home to diverse marine life, which I enjoyed discovering either off-shore or on a day trip. 

P.S. When the fishermen return to shore, they are usually accompanied by stunning stingrays, which I love to observe.

Tobacco is not necessarily the easiest or cheapest Caye to get to, but this only adds to its charm. To get to Tobacco Caye, I took a boat from Dangriga. The boats usually only leave in the mornings. They will likely offer transport if you book any accommodation on the island.

Tobacco Caye enjoys a typical Caribbean climate, with hurricane season lasting from June- November.

Tips: Besides a little kiosk, you must rely on your host or hotel for everything.

European Beaches with Clear Water

17. Porto Katsiki Beach, Lefkada, Greece

When I first saw Porto Katsiki beach in Lefkada, I was in awe. This beach, with its white sands and pebbles and sparkling blue waters, looked like something straight out of a postcard. It’s easily one of the best beaches with clear water in the world.

Located on the Greek island of Lefkada, Porto Katsiki is a gem that doesn’t need a ferry ride to reach. I flew into Aktion International Airport, which is just 20 minutes from Lefkada. Since the island’s beauty is best explored by car, I rented one and was soon on my way.

I’ve been spending time in Lefkada every summer and the best time to visit is June and September. The weather is splendid, warm but not too hot, and the beach is less crowded. July and August, being the high season, are sweltering and packed with tourists.

One tip for all visitors: be prepared to climb about 100 steps to get to the beach. It sounds daunting, but trust me, the view and the water are worth every step. When I went in June, I easily found a spot to park at the parking area above the beach. But during the high season, it’s best to go early to secure a spot.

Porto Katsiki is an organized beach, so you don’t have to lug around a lot of stuff. There are few sunbeds available, and if you’re craving a cold coffee or some food, there’s a delivery service right on the beach.

So if you’re looking for a beach getaway, Porto Katsiki in Lefkada should be on your list. It’s a blend of natural beauty, convenience, and classic Greek charm. Just remember your sunscreen and a camera to capture the breathtaking views!

18. Betina Cave Beach, Dubrovnik, Croatia

In Dubrovnik, one beach with beautiful clear water that I recommend checking out is Betina Cave Beach, which is located just south of Dubrovnik’s bustling Old Town inside a cave. As a result of the location, the beach is much smaller than other beaches in the area and is only accessible by sea.

Therefore, one of the best ways to reach the beach is via kayak. This not only lets you explore a more hidden side of the city but also escape the throngs of people. Plus, a guide can give you a bit of information on the history of the area.

Once at the beach, you’ll notice that it has lots of tiny pebbles instead of sand. Thus, I recommend bringing some flip-flops as well as a cover-up to protect yourself against the sun’s intense rays! Finally, in terms of things to do, the beach is perfect for snorkeling, swimming, or just enjoying a little snack break while enjoying the view.

19. Luskentyre Beach, Isle of Harris, Scotland

Scotland might not be the first place that comes to mind for beaches with clear water but it actually has some fantastic beaches. This is especially true in the Outer Hebrides, a group of islands west of mainland Scotland.

Luskentyre beach on the Isle of Harris is one of the best examples and it often features in TripAdvisor awards for the best beaches in Europe. The water here is crystal clear and the sand is white. On a sunny day the water is turquoise and you could be forgiven for believing you were in the Maldives were it not for the Scottish weather. The best time to visit the beach is from April to October but you should expect to get all four seasons in one day. It might rain in the morning but be a perfect blue sky by lunch time.

One thing to be aware of is the large difference between high and low tide. Try to visit the beach both at low tide and again a few hours before or after high tide when you get the beautiful watercolors.

At low tide you can walk for miles along the white sand. One of the best things to do in the area is the circular walk over Beinn Dhubh. I often go hiking in the UK and this is my favorite. The views over the beach are fantastic.

To get to the Isle of Harris you must take a ferry from Skye or Ullapool or a domestic flight to Stornoway. When you get to Harris the easiest way to get to the beach is by rental car and there is a car park close to the beach.

20. Cala Varques, Mallorca, Spain

Cala Varques is a remote and isolated beach off the east coast of the Mediterranean island of Mallorca. It is located between the harbor towns of Porto Cristo and Porto Colom. The beach is in pristine condition with crystal clear water and soft white sand. 

To reach this slice of paradise you have to walk 45 minutes through fragrant pine trees following a rocky path which is relatively easy but ensures to pack light. The reward of enjoying the beautiful crystal clear water is worth the effort! 

The best place to park is at Cala Romantica where there is a free beach car park. Walk along the coastal path south until you reach the natural arch  ‘d’Es Caló Blanc’ formation, from there you are only a short 5 minute walk to Cala Varques. Another way to reach the beach is by boat, hire one for the day to explore many of the incredible coves along this stretch of coastline.

Once you arrive at the clear water beach there is little shade, so it’s worth bringing a hat! There is a rustic beach bar that sells cold drinks and fruit, however there are no other facilities such as toilets or sun beds. To really enjoy the clarity of the water, bring your snorkeling gear or some goggles to see what marine life you can spot. 21. Castel Plage, Nice, France

Here you can find one of the best beaches with clear water in the world.  Here is the Castel Plage, located right along the Promenade des Anglais. The Mediterranean azure-colored waters are clear, refreshing, and just oh-so delightful. The clear white pebble beach will allow you to soak up the sun, you’ll be relaxed in no time at all.

But it is a private beach so plan accordingly. What you do get though is a quality restaurant with delectable food and service to bring to your lounge area. But you can continue to walk farther along the promenade to the more public beaches if you so choose.

To get to this beach, you’ll need to make your way to the French Riveria by stopping in Nice, France. This location is usually a stop for most French tours, or simply take a bus, train, or even a rental car. It’s about a day’s away from Paris and easily doable.

The weather in Nice is usually always pleasant with a little bit of cloud and rain in the winter months. Summer is what makes it so popular. And once you are done at the beach, you get to explore the rest of Nice. A fun side activity we discovered is renting a stylish Ferrari and driving it up the coast of Nice along the waters.

This place is a clear winner in a wonderful country that you will continually want to explore.

22. Cala Napoletana, Sardinia, Italy

Cala Napoletana is a splendid beach nestled in the north of the island of Caprera in the Maddalena archipelago located north of Sardinia, Italy’s 2nd largest island. This archipelago is a paradise on earth, entirely listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its unspoilt nature and jaw-dropping beaches. And Cala Napoletana is one of the most spectacular! 

Cala Napoletana is a beach of powdery golden sand dominated by majestic, vegetation-covered rocks. The rounded pink granite boulders and transparent water recall the Seychelles. Neither bar nor deckchair disfigure this idyllic setting, which has to be earned as it is a 30-45 minute hike to reach it. 

To get there, first take a 20-minute ferry from Palau in Sardinia. Once on La Maddalena, the only option is to drive for 15 minutes to the ‘Becco di Vela’ hiking trailhead, and simply park along the road. From there, you will need to walk an easy rocky trail for about 30 minutes on the outward trip and 45 minutes on the return.

This area is best visited in spring or summer (from May to September), when it is sunny and the water temperature pleasant. But beware, summer is extremely hot and you won’t find any facilities on site. So bring plenty of water, snacks, an umbrella, your swimsuit and snorkeling gear to discover the seabed at this beach with clear water! 

23. Himare Beach, Himare, Albania

Himare is a charming town in the Albanian Riviera region, showcasing some of the clearest waters in Europe. I was told Himare was the ultimate beach town in Albania, and indeed I was not disappointed.

Even in the hot summer months, when Albanian beaches with clear water get truly loaded with tourists, I found Himare to be the most pleasant and beautiful beach destination on the Albanian coast.

This charming town has not one, but several beaches with crystal clear waters to offer. Himare Beach (in the photo) offers unbelievably clear water for a city beach, but just a short drive from town you’ll find little gems like Gjipe Beach, Aquarium Bay, and Llamani Beach boasting the most tranquil setting and turquoise waters I couldn’t say goodbye to. All of those beaches offer great facilities like comfy sun loungers, umbrellas and many bars and restaurants around. The best time to visit is between June and September when the weather is hot and water of a perfect temperature for swimming.

24. Silfra, Iceland

I know, I know, what’s Iceland doing on this list of the best beaches with clear water around the world? I’m sure you’re going to love it after you hear about one of the most mind-blowing snorkeling spots on this planet – Silfra in Iceland.

Picture this: you’re diving into crystal clear water that is so pure, you can actually drink from it. Silfra is famous for its jaw-dropping visibility, given by filtering the water through volcano rock for tens of years, making it the clearest water on Earth. You’ll be able to see underwater for what feels like forever.

Silfra is nestled within Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, just an hour’s drive from Reykjavik. Getting there is easy in any season, you can either rent a car and embark on a scenic road trip or hop on a guided tour that takes care of all the logistics for you. They have parking spots available if you’re coming by car, and all amenities are available at the spot as well.

Compared to the other places on this list, you should forget about flip-flops and sunscreen, and pack warm layers and a lot of optimism. Even in summer, the water stays at a steady 2 C, so a drysuit is a must. Don’t forget to bring your waterproof camera to capture those mesmerizing underwater vistas! 25. Barcaggio, Corsica, France

Barcaggio is an enormous half circle beach overlooking the small island Giraglia with a very clean, clear turquoise water. It’s located just south (5 min walk from a parking lot) of the small town Barcaggio on the finger of Northern Corsica.

The beach itself is made of fine, white sand, ideal for playing in and setting up umbrellas for the day. The beach is more sandy on the upper half, towards the town, while below the beach bar, located about halfway down the beach, there is quite a bit of seaweed buildup.

No matter where you choose to stay, the water is usually quite warm and very clear. Be aware of some jellyfish here and there, depending on the tides and time of year. The first 10 meters of water is waist deep, perfect for kids, playing racket ball and other water games. Don’t miss the free-ranging cows that make their way onto the beach from time to time. While they are not afraid of you, don’t try to touch them!

You can walk down the entire beach and beyond by following the footpath to one of the many coastal towers. Barcaggio itself is tiny with two small bars and a bread truck that comes around 11:00 with French breads, pastries and pizza.  

If you visit the beach by boat, note that this is a protected natural site. Fishing is not permitted and you must anchor on white sand within the marked areas.

26. Paleokastritsa Beach, Corfu, Greece

Paleokastritsa Beach is situated on the western coast of the Greek island of Corfu, in the Ionian Sea. Its waters are crystal clear and is the perfect place to sunbathe! One of the best beaches with clear water in my opinion!

You can reach Paleokastritsa by various means. The most convenient way is by car or taxi. From Corfu Town, it’s about a 25 to 30-minute drive. Alternatively, you can use public transportation, such as buses, which regularly connect Corfu Town to Paleokastritsa.

Paleokastritsa has a Mediterranean climate. Summers are warm and dry, but spring and early autumn are also pleasant times to visit, with milder temperatures and fewer crowds.

There are many activities you can do in and around Paleokastritsa, such as beach activities, boat tours, hiking and water sports. The water is so clear which makes it perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Moreover, boat tours are very popular to explore the hidden caves and remote beaches nearby. 

There are several hiking trails that provide panoramic viewpoints overlooking the bay like the one next to the Paleokastritsa Monastery. Lastly, you can try diverse water sports, such as water skiing, paddleboarding, and kayaking.

It’s suggested that you spend at least a week in Corfu so you can enjoy all that it has to offer.  Parking can be a bit challenging during the peak season, so it’s advisable to arrive early or use public transportation if possible. Don’t forget to get the summer essentials and water shoes for entering the seabed since it’s rocky.

27. Otranto Beach, Puglia, Italy

Otranto is a town in Puglia, in the South of Italy. It has a beautiful beach and one of the nicest, clearest and most turquoise water that I have seen in Italy. The beach is sandy and has some rocks on the sides. The sea is very calm, practically without waves, and very shallow, so it’s great for visiting with kids as well.

The warmest months are during the high season in Italy (June to August), when it can be very crowded. The warmest month is August, with 32° Celsius. But if you go during the shoulder seasons, like May, you can have the beach all to yourself, as there was almost no one else there when I visited. The weather will be a bit cooler though, so you might enjoy walking around but not necessarily swimming.

The beach is located in the historic center of Otranto, which is a small town, so you can get everywhere by foot. To get to Otranto, you can either drive or take a bus from a nearby city, such as Lecce.

If you are going to drive to Otranto, keep in mind that the historic center is pedestrian-only, so you will have to park on the outskirts.of the town. Besides enjoying its gorgeous beach with clear water, Otranto by itself is a very pretty town, so make sure to add to your Puglia itinerary.

Situated approximately 8 nautical miles from the seaside village of Grand Baie in northern Mauritius, Flat Island is one of the most sought-after retreats, which could be reached after a thrilling boat ride on the choppy waters of the Indian Ocean.

Secluded and tucked away from the hobnob, Flat island is also a nature reserve, and is home to endemic fauna and flora. While here, revel in its natural beauty, dip your feet in its crystal clear emerald waters, sunbathe on its white beaches, chase butterflies, watch birds, and doze off under a canopy of trees when it gets hotter in the afternoons.

If you are all for luxury, then a leisurely grilled lunch on the island in collaboration with a catamaran or yacht operator is highly recommended. However, being a protected nature reserve, night stay isn’t allowed either on the Flat island nor on its counterpart Gabriel island that’s separated by a lagoon.

30. Anse Source D’Argent Beach, La Digue, Seychelles

Anse Source D’Argent Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches with clear water in the world. And not just because I was there three (soon four) times. Turquoise water, granite builders, and golden sand give this Seychelles beach a distinctive look. It is always at the top of the list of most beautiful beaches with clear water in the World.

The water is clear and not too deep. There is a reef so you should mind your step if the tide is low. But even then, you will find places to swim. Bring your snorkel gear to watch corals and fish swimming around you.

Anse Source D’Argent is located on the island La Digue in Seychelles. Best option is to fly into Mahe airport and then take a 1.5 hour ferry ride to the island of La Digue. From the jetty, rent a bike and cycle for about 15 minutes. The beach is located inside the L’Union Estate, a former coconut and vanilla plantation, and you have to pay a fee to enter.

Laying close to the equator means the weather is good all year round. The best time to visit is between April and November. I was there at the end of April and the beginning of November. I preferred the November weather but they were both very similar. During that time the wind is a bit calmer, there is less rain and there are less waves.

You should take your camera, since this is the most photographed beach in the world. If you want to see the beach from a different perspective, go on a Crystal Kayak tour. On this water adventure, you will kayak along the beach, and also visit the secluded Robinson Crusoe beach.

Boracay is consistently voted as one of the best beaches in the world — and I couldn’t agree more because I’ve been there four times! It’s a place where the sand is as fine and white as sugar, and the water is so clear that you can see your toes wiggling beneath the surface. 

Located in the Philippines, you’ll need to land first at one of the country’s international airports in Manila, Clark, or Cebu. From there, fly to Caticlan, and it’s a short boat ride to the island.

Boracay offers a warm and inviting tropical climate year-round, but the best time to visit is during the dry season, which runs from December to May. During this period, the skies are clear, and the chances for sunny weather are high.

33. Chaweng Beach, Thailand

Are you dreaming of a vacation to Thailand where you can relax on the beach and enjoy the crystal clear water with your toes in the sand?

We were lucky enough to move to the popular island of Koh Samui, located in the Gulf of Thailand, and it wasn’t long until we stumbled across Chaweng Beach.

The second we stepped into the stunningly clear teal water, we could see the fish darting by several feet below in the surf.

While this beach is not much of a secret for serious Thailand lovers, it is a little hidden off the main road surrounding the island and may take some searching to find an access point.

We were not staying at a resort on this beach, but there is access to this 2.5-mile-long stretch of soft white sand through several walkways with plenty of scooter parking.

When visiting Chaweng Beach, we like to relax and catch some rays while drinking right out of a coconut, but if you are adventurous, you can visit one of the watersports companies to rent a paddleboard or a Jet Ski.

As beach lovers, our favorite time of year to visit is after the holidays when the daytime high temperatures sit at around 80° F, which is perfect for a refreshing dip into the beach’s clear water.

34. Atsuta Beach, Okinawa, Japan

Atsuta Beach in Okinawa is perhaps one of the prettiest beaches with clear water in Okinawa. Located less than an hour away from Naha, Atsuta Beach is a secluded beach with crystal clear water, amazing snorkeling, and little to no crowds.

Atsuta Beach is picture perfect, in fact it’s popular for wedding photos since the water is various shades of blue, the sand is untouched, and the blue sky and puffy clouds make for an ideal background.

In Okinawa, the water stays warm so swimming here can be enjoyed throughout the year. Snorkeling is the best way to explore Atsuta Beach. There are a few rocks not far from shore that are home to hundreds if not thousands of fish. About a 10 minutes swim from the rocks, the sandy bottom turns into magnificent coral.

The beach doesn’t have a lot of shade, so it is recommended to bring a tent. Plan to stay at Atsuta Beach for several hours. The Okinawa sun can get hot so bring water and plenty of snacks.

The only negative thing about Atsuta Beach is the parking. Generally, it’s ok to park in the local neighborhoods, but plan to walk about 5-10 minutes carrying all your beach gear. Whether you are visiting Atsuta Beach for snorkeling or just relaxing on the beach, this is one of Okinawa’s best beaches.

35. Valu Beach, Timor Leste

On the eastern tip of Timor Leste is a beach that has reached legendary status among travelers to this remote island nation. It’s called Valu Beach and it’s as pristine as it is beautiful.

Reaching Timor Leste is a challenge in its own right, but then also traversing through little villages, mountains, jungles and the only national park of the country is a real adventure. I reached Valu Beach by a combination of public transport and hitchhiking and it was an awesome journey. Alternatively, rent a car in the capital Dili and reach Valu Beach in 6-7 hours.

The beach itself is marvelous. White sand, long, uninterrupted beach line, and unobstructed view towards the mythical Jaco Island. And the water is crystal clear. This small uninhabited island is sacred to the local population and fishermen will take you to visit on their boats. Both the beach and the island are awesome places to snorkel with diverse marine life. Just bring your own equipment.

There are only 2 forms of accommodation – a somewhat luxurious hotel or community-organized bungalows. I stayed in the latter and I had an awesome night listening to the ocean waves just meters away. Don’t get me started about the delicious fish for dinner!

The best time to visit is during the dry season between June and November. I went to Timor Leste in April and it only rained 1 day out of 12. It doesn’t rain all the time either, so even in the rainy season, you can still enjoy Valu Beach, one of the best beaches with clear water in the world.

36. Lipah Beach, Bali, Indonesia

Laid-back Amed, located on Bali’s east coast, is a little paradise known for its stunning beaches with clear water. Unlike many of Bali’s beaches, which are primarily for surfers, beaches in Amed offer calm, clear waters, perfect for snorkeling directly from the shore.

Among the beaches in Amed, Lipah Beach stands out as one of the most popular. It has water like liquid glass and fine gray sand, unlike the black sand on other Amed beaches. Situated in a bay, Lipah’s placid and comfortably warm throughout the year. The beach boasts a beautiful stretch of coral, beginning just a few meters from the shore, making it an excellent snorkeling spot for beginners and experienced enthusiasts.

Lining the beach are several guesthouses, each with its own beachfront cafe or bar. Enjoying a drink at these establishments and leaving your belongings there while you venture into the water is perfectly acceptable. Additionally, you can rent sun chairs, umbrellas, and snorkeling equipment for the day.

You’ll find Lipah Beach at the heart of Amed. While scooters are the preferred mode of transportation in Amed, you can also reach Lipah by foot if you’re staying in the Jemeluk-Lipah area.

To reach Lipah, we ride our scooters and take the Vienna Beach Resort road. There’s free shaded parking right by the best snorkeling. You won’t need to bring anything else besides a towel, some cash, and sunscreen.

In addition to swimming, snorkeling, and sunbathing, Lipah is a popular destination for dive schools. The tranquil, clear waters of Lipah are often the first exploration site for new divers obtaining their PADI certification. It’s also an excellent location for catching a breathtaking sunset.

37. Sapi Island, Malaysia

There are few beaches with clear water in the world that I have visited across the world that can be compared to the beach on Sapi island. This iconic island is part of the Tunku Abdul Rehman park which is located off the coast of Kota Kinabalu. Getting here is pretty easy as there are loads of boats that head out from the port in the city. In fact, island hopping in Sabah is one of the top things to do so make sure to book your spot in advance!

Now we’ve been to a couple of different islands and while they are all really really pretty, we found that Sapi has some of the clearest water in the area. It has nice cordoned off areas where people can swim safely, a dedicated spot for the boats to enter and the clear water allows you to see the gorgeous coral beneath easily. 

Sapi is also a well known diving spot with people heading here for discover scuba dives, diving courses and for fun dives. Just carry your own lunch and snacks when you head here because there isn’t much on the island with the exception of one buffet stand. 

All in all, this is an island that you really don’t want to leave.

Australia and Oceania Beaches with Clear Water

38. Cottesloe Beach, Perth, Australia

Cottesloe Beach is an iconic Western Australian Beach and is well worth a visit on your next Australian vacation. Located in Perth, Cottesloe is home to bright white sands, crystal-clear turquoise water and a laid-back Aussie atmosphere. 

There is so much to do at Cottesloe Beach, visitors can try surfing, stand-up paddle boarding, snorkeling, fishing and so much more. Don’t forget to grab some fish and chips to enjoy on the foreshore as you watch the sunset over the Indian Ocean – the perfect way to end a day out at the beach!

The weather at Cottesloe is pristine, after all, Perth is known as the sunniest capital city in the world, with a whopping 8 hours of sunshine per day! Even winter temperatures are relatively mild, dipping to around 10℃ (50℉). 

March is a particularly good time to visit Cottesloe when the annual Sculptures by the Sea event runs. Sculptures from local and international artists pop up on the sand and along the grassy foreshore. The event draws over 200,000 visitors each year and is a fantastic day out. 

Luckily for visitors, Cottesloe is easily accessible by train – catch the Fremantle line from Perth to Cottesloe Station, hop off and follow the signs to the beach. Alternatively, visitors can take the short 20-minute drive from Perth. There are car parks along the foreshore but keep in mind they fill up quickly on weekends and holidays.

39. Whitehaven Beach, Whitsunday Islands, Australia

Whitehaven Beach in Australia’s Whitsunday Islands has crystal clear turquoise water and stunning white sand.

Located in Queensland, the nearest airport is Proserpine, a 30-minute drive from Airlie Beach. The Whitsunday Islands are located near Airlie Beach and most visitors stay there while visiting the islands or the Great Barrier Reef during the day.

Airlie Beach is also a popular stop on road trips along the East Coast of Queensland, and a visit to Whitehaven Beach tops many bucket lists. Luckily, there are plenty of day trips to Whitehaven Beach and other unique areas from Airlie Beach.

Whitehaven Beach can only be visited by boat, seaplane, or helicopter and there are no hotels or restaurants there though there are BBQ and camping facilities.

The best time to go to Whitehaven Beach is the spring, which in Australia runs from September to November. The weather is generally drier and warm in the spring, but not too hot. The water temperature by Whitehaven Beach doesn’t go below 20 degrees Celsius, so swimming is possible year-round.

Whitehaven Beach has walking trails and a lookout with an incredible view. Lots of tour groups stop by on their way to the Great Barrier Reef for a bit of swimming or snorkeling.

For most people around the world, the island of Rarotonga sounds like one of the most remote places on Earth. Located in the Pacific ocean it is the most popular of the fifteen Cook Islands, each of which is surrounded by idyllic beaches with crystal clear water.

All of the beaches in Rarotonga are stunning, but it becomes immediately clear that Titikaveka is the best. With water that flickers through various shades of blue and green and a golden sand beachfront lined with native forests you could easily spend hours soaking up the sun here.

However, within the water lies an entire new world to be explored. The isolated country offers clear waters with very strong visibility for snorkelling and diving. Titikaveka is no exception with some of the clearest waters on the island. The marine life here is abundant with thousands of colourful fish including trevally, angelfish, butterfly fish, zebrafish and the occasional reef shark.

Getting to Titikaveka beach is pretty easy assuming you’ve already made it to Rarotonga! There is a bus that goes around the island spontaneously throughout the day, or you can usually walk or drive here from anywhere. If you’re coming from overseas then you’ll probably need to fly into New Zealand first.

The best accommodation in Rarotonga can be found around Titikaveka too, with Little Polynesian being one of the top luxury picks and Moana Sands being one of the best affordable to mid-range options.

Reaching Rarotonga is the hard part but once you get there you will truly be in paradise and Titikaveka Beach is a must-visit.

41. New Chums Beach, New Zealand

New Chums Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Coromandel, New Zealand. With soft white sand and crystal-clear turquoise water, New Chums looks like a tropical oasis. 

The beach is surrounded by Nikau palms and fern trees, and there isn’t a house or development in sight. This is about as pristine as a beach can get! On a warm summer’s day, the water is incredible for swimming. The water is so clear that you can sometimes spot shells in the shallows.

Adding to the appeal of New Chums is the fact that it’s seldom crowded, partly due to the fact that you have to hike to get there. The hike into New Chums Beach takes about 30 minutes one-way, starting from the northern end of Whangapoua Beach (which is another gorgeous beach worth spending some time at!). 

It’s best to time this hike around low tide, because there is a small stream you need to cross at Whangapoua Beach and it fills in at high tide. While the hike isn’t very strenuous, it does involve a bit of rock-hopping and some slight inclines. It’s best to wear sneakers or supportive hiking sandals like Tevas. 

There are no bathrooms or other facilities at New Chums Beach, but there are toilets by the Whangapoua Beach parking lot where you start the walk. Don’t forget to pack some sunscreen, a beach towel, a water bottle, and some snacks—once you get to the clear water beach, you’ll want to stay awhile!

42. Tamae Beach, Moorea, French Polynesia

Stepping onto the warm sand at Tamae Beach on Moorea, the crystal clear water immediately caught my eye. The shades of blue and green are absolutely breathtaking and it’s easy to see right down to the bottom of the ocean floor.

Tamae Beach is located on the eastern coast of Moorea, one of the islands of French Polynesia. To get there, I recommend taking the Tahiti to Moorea ferry, which runs regularly throughout the day, after landing in Tahiti.

The weather at Tamae Beach is consistently sunny with warm temperatures throughout the year, making it the perfect spot for a day of snorkeling or lounging on the clear water beach. Tamae Beach has one of the largest coral gardens in Moorea and it is known for its wild ocean life. You can easily spot beautiful marine life like colorful fish and sea turtles.

When you need a break from all the water activities, there are also plenty of spots along the beach for a picnic or to simply relax and bask in the sun. Or, head up to the roadway above for panoramic views of the whole beach.

Overall, my experience at Tamae Beach was nothing short of amazing and the clear water was a major highlight of the trip.

43. Kaiteriteri Beach, New Zealand

One of the top 3 beaches in the South Pacific (as voted in TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Awards), New Zealand’s Kaiteriteri Beach boasts golden sands and clear aquamarine water.

This popular holiday spot gets remarkably busy over the summer, so we prefer to travel in the off-season during Autumn or Spring when we are often the only ones there. At this time, the water may be too cool for swimming, but the weather is still pleasant.

What we love the most about Kaiteriteri Beach is the surrounding bush-clad hills and the calm, shallow water, perfect for swimming. We spend our days relaxing on the beach, kayaking and doing coastal walks.

Located in the Nelson Tasman region of the South Island, Kaiteriteri is the gateway to the spectacular Abel Tasman National Park. The park is well known for its stunning beaches and bays, granite cliffs, and the Abel Tasman Coast Track, one of New Zealand’s Great Walks.

You can reach Kaiteriteri Beach within 1 hr drive from Nelson (domestic) Airport.

Adding Kaiteriteri Beach to your South Island bucket list is a must-do for every visitor to New Zealand.

Bonus! 44. Lalomanu Beach, Samoa

Located on the east coast of Upolu, the main island in Samoa, Lalomanu Beach is a picture-perfect tropical paradise with some of the clearest water in the world. 

This white sand beach is lined with palm trees and dotted with Fales (open huts) and has a beautiful view of Nu,utele island, creating the perfect place to relax and unwind by the ocean. 

The water is warm and calm while the coral lagoon is teeming with life, making this a great place to try snorkelling. What’s more, the sunny weather and local cafes provide plenty of opportunities to relax outside of the water. 

It’s an easy hour-and-a-half drive from Apia along the South Coast Road and parking is available right at the entrance to Lalomanu Beach. 

Note that as with many of Samoa’s beaches, most of Lalomanu Beach is privately owned so you will need to pay to access it. It costs about 50 tala (~US$20) to rent a medium-sized fale with parking included and there are options for overnight stays.
