Spend the day with me in Italy going from Positano to Capri, exploring the magical island by boat and by land. I also have a full article on taking a Capri day trip from Positano, so read that to help you plan your getaway!
Just when I think things can’t get any better, we spend the day on Capri. Today will go down in the history books as one of my favorite days ever.
We purchased an 8 hour tour from Positano to Capri about 2 months ago. I originally planned to take the ferry, and then once we got there to get a boat around the island, but when I realized you could do it all with an easy, no stress boat tour, I decided that was probably a better option. The ferry itself would have been 100 euros for 2 people round trip, plus the boat tour which I think would have been another 60 to 80. We booked this tour of Capri from Get Your Guide for about $115 per person.
We rushed down to the dock for our tour and grabbed a croissant and cappuccino along the way. Man am I going to miss these breakfasts. I’m honestly a big savory breakfast person, so I expected to not love the Italian breakfast culture. But with cappuccinos like this and always being on the go in the mornings, it’s been so perfect. Seriously though, the cappuccinos really are life altering. I savor every single sip. I have fallen in love.
Boat Trip from Positano to Capri
We got picked up at the dock in Positano, and had the prettiest wooden boat, with just a total of 12 people on board. It was the PERFECT size and made for an intimate experience going from Positano to Capri while also having people to chat with and take pictures of each other!
The ride to Capri is pretty long, I think about 45 minutes. Once we arrived we did a full loop of the island, our skipper pointed out different things and taught us a little about what we were looking at.
On the boat, I brought my Teema Towel with me on the boat and wow, am I glad I did!!! I wrapped it around me to stay warm from the wind, and it kept me dry from all of the water spraying up! You don’t understand, I seriously love that towel and bring it with me everywhere. Get your Teema before your next trip!
We saw the famous Fraglioni rocks and some different grottos and the beautiful jagged cliffs along the island. He pointed to the Blue Grotto, but it was closed today. I wasn’t upset because I didn’t want to do it anyways.
After a lovely ride around the island, we arrived at Marina Grande, got off and we’re told to return at 3:15, 4 hours later. We wanted to head up to the center of Capri to do some shopping, and our options were to pay for a taxi, take the cable car, or hike up the stone pathway. To be honest, we didn’t want to spend the money, the cable car looked very busy and we’re trying not to be in confined spaces with people seeing how our Covid test is tomorrow. So hike it is!
Shopping in Capri Town
It was 0.6 miles and about 12 minutes. It was tough, and we were sweating hard, but I always like a good challenge, so we made it and were going to reward ourselves with some shopping.
Austin found an incredible linen shirt that he bought, and I am so excited to say I had custom made leather sandals made right to my foot. It was a really neat experience and I am SO glad I did it. I highly recommend the shop I went to, A Mano Capri Sandals. They were so kind, let me take photos of them working and were not pushy or salesy at all. And the shoes were beautiful and looked to be amazing quality.
Lunch at Da Paolino
After shopping we walked to lunch where we had reservations at Da Paolino. The most gorgeous restaurant, set under a lemon grove. It is picture perfect to say the least. This place is incredible and I’m sure it is getting more popular by the day. Just looking at the photos and you can understand why. I honestly dreamed about this lunch for years, I had to pinch myself that I was finally there to see it with my own eyes! Of course I had to wear yellow to match the lemons! Get a similar yellow dress for your trip!
The food was amazing too, Austin even said it was the best salad he ever had. A simple arugula and tomato salad, but it was perfect. He had spaghetti with cherry tomato sauce and I had lemon ravioli. Both were yummy and we were sad to leave, but our 4 hours were already almost up, and we had to walk back to the marina.
We hopped on the boat and took about an hour and a half to get back, stopping along the way to see some neat spots! Our skipper even served us snacks and Prosecco on the return! It was an amazing day tour, and I highly recommend them for anyone staying in Positano or Praiano. If you are staying anywhere else, or just want a different type of tour, I recommend using GetYourGuide or Viator. Both have been amazing in my experience! Be sure to book your tour from Positano to Capri before you go!
After Our Tour From Positano to Capri
When we got back, we shopped a little more (I needed a Positano hand painted plate of course!!) and then we headed straight for the room to shower and refresh for dinner. The hike to the room is a tough one, so many steps!!! But from what we can tell, we are closer to town than many other homes, so we are grateful to be as close as we are. It’s also a really beautiful walk so we don’t mind it.
Dinner at Chez Black
We headed back down to the beach, sat in the sand watching the ocean and just enjoying our last night. We went to dinner at Chez Black, right on the beach. I was afraid it would be bad and very touristy being so close to the action, but everything was actually delicious!!
We ordered another arugula and tomato salad because we loved the one from lunch so much. For our meals we shared a prosciutto pizza and the mixed seafood pasta. Bother were great but we especially recommend the pizza. After dinner we went straight back to the room to get some rest!
Tomorrow is our last day!!!! We are so sad, and will be spending it traveling back to Rome and getting a Covid test. It won’t be the most glamorous day but we will make the most of it!! Who thinks we should stay and explore every last inch of this country? We certainly don’t want to leave, and I will miss sharing my adventures with you all!! For now, see you tomorrow. Goodnight my friends!
