Positano is dreamy at any hour, but when the sun sets over the pastel cliffs and the town lights twinkle against the sea, the magic of the Amalfi Coast truly comes to life. Whether you’re winding down after a full day of exploring or looking to soak up every ounce of your vacation, Positano at night offers just the right mix of relaxation, romance, and local charm.
This guide covers everything you need to know about what to do in Positano at night, from where to eat and drink to where to wander after dark. I’ve also included my favorite local tips from our own stay, so you can enjoy a night in Positano the way we did on our two-week Italy trip.
Let’s be honest: the Amalfi Coast can be a little hectic during the day. But as the sun dips into the Tyrrhenian Sea and the day-trippers head out, Positano becomes peaceful, golden, and even more romantic. It’s the perfect time to slow down, dress up, sip something sparkling, and enjoy the slower pace of Italian coastal life.

Best Things to do in Positano at Night
1. Enjoy Sunset Cocktails at Franco’s Bar
Start your night with an aperitivo at Franco’s Bar, one of the most iconic sunset spots in Positano. It’s stylish, relaxed, and the view? Absolutely jaw-dropping. Overlooking the entire coastline, this open-air terrace is one of the best places to watch the town transition from day to night. Order a Limoncello Spritz or a craft cocktail. Drinks are a bit pricey, but you’re paying for the view and experience.
Want something slightly less expensive and less snooty? We loved watching the sunset from Ocean Bar right on the sand at Positano Spiaggia. A Limoncello spritz with your toes in the sand? Italian perfection.
Tori’s Tip: This place gets busy, especially in spring and summer. Make a reservation if you can, or arrive early to snag a prime table by the edge.

2. Have Dinner at a Local Favorite with a View
Dinner in Positano is an experience, multi-course, slow-paced, and best enjoyed with a bottle of local wine. Since you’re on the coast, be sure to enjoy plenty of seafood. If you’re spending any time in Venice during your trip to Italy, you’ll want to enjoy seafood there too, but it’s a completely different style of cooking in that waterfront city!
Here are a few of my favorite restaurants from our trip that are perfect for a memorable night:
La Tagliata (Never Ending Portions)
This family-owned restaurant is everything you want in a southern Italian dinner. Located in the hills above Positano, La Tagliata serves a set menu of endless food; there will be appetizers, homemade pasta, grilled meats, and dessert. It’s incredibly famous, and one of the best restaurants on the whole Amalfi Coast!
Whether you have one day in Positano or a whole week, be sure to make this spot a top priority!
Why go: The views, the portions, the price (it’s a great value), and the warm hospitality.
Tori Tip: They offer free transportation up the mountain and back down to town. Just make sure to book a reservation ahead of time and confirm your ride.

Chez Black (Beachfront Dining)
Located directly on the beach, Chez Black is a Positano institution. Yes, it’s a little touristy, but it’s also really good. We loved the casual yet vibrant vibe here after a day of hiking the Path of the Gods.
When we ate here, we tried a variety of things including their famous heart shaped pizza. And although it is a little touristy, we really enjoyed our meal! It wasn’t the absolute best dinner of our two weeks in Italy, but it was still delicious. I also love their hand painted plates and was super tempted to buy a set to bring home.
What to order: The heart-shaped pizza and arugula salad.
Tori Tip: Request a table close to the beach so you can feel the sea breeze and people-watch as the evening rolls on.

Casa Mele (Upscale & Romantic)
This was one of the best upscale meals of our entire Italy trip. Located just up the road from the center of town, Casa Mele is chic and creative while still keeping that warm Italian charm. Think homemade pasta, seafood stews, and beautifully plated desserts.
It was a little fancy for our typical taste, but so worth it because everything was delicious and beautifully crafted. We also adored our server and thought the service was outstanding!
Tori Tip: Ask for extra focaccia (you won’t regret it!). Make a reservation early, this is a small spot that fills up fast.
3. Wander the Streets with a Scoop of Gelato
No night in Italy is complete without a cone of gelato. After dinner, take a slow stroll through Positano’s winding streets, gelato in hand, and soak in the warm evening air. I take gelato very seriously, so I think this is a must-do thing to do in Positano at night.
Where to go: You’ll find several gelato shops near the main beach and up the pedestrian walkways. Look for places where the gelato looks flat and creamy (not piled high) for the most authentic experience.
Tori Tip: My go-to flavors in Italy are pistachio and bacio (chocolate hazelnut). You’ll find them almost everywhere, and they never disappoint.

4. Shop the Boutiques by Night
Some of Positano’s boutiques stay open later during the spring and summer months, especially the ones near the main road and beach. It’s one of the best things to do in Positano during the day too, but there’s never too much time for shopping at these cute boutiques. After dinner, wander through the shops and maybe even treat yourself to something handmade. Be sure to look for hand-painted ceramics, linen clothing and dresses, locally-made leather sandals, limoncello and Amalfi Coast wine to bring home.
I bought a beautiful ceramic plate with a painting of Positano on it. My husband picked out Italian leather shoes that he wears constantly to this day. We also shipped a box of limoncello home from here, filled with mini bottles to hand out to friends and family when we got home. And as for the handmade sandals, You can buy them here but the most famous place to get them is in Capri, so I highly recommend taking a day trip to the island of Capri!
Tori Tip: If you see something you love—buy it. Many of the best items in Positano are one-of-a-kind and won’t be found anywhere else!

5. Listen to Live Music at Music on the Rocks
It’s one of the most unique clubs you could visit around the world, located inside the cliffs of Positano. And of course, that means you’ve got to at least check it out, it’s one of the most unique things to do in Positano at night.
Whether you’re someone who’s typically into dancing the night away at a club, or prefer to sip a drink quietly on your patio after dinner, either way you must at least pay a visit to Music on the Rocks.
When to go: It opens late and gets busier around midnight.
What to expect: Live DJs, cocktails, and a mix of locals and tourists.
Tori Tip: Even if you’re not into clubbing, it’s worth stopping by just to check out the setting.

6. Take a Night Walk Along the Beach
If you want something more peaceful, a moonlit walk along Spiaggia Grande, Positano’s main beach, is simple and beautiful. The beautiful Italian beach town glows behind you, the waves lap gently against the shore, and the vibe is nothing short of romantic.
What to bring: A lightweight shawl or wrap in case it’s breezy.
Tori Tip: Grab a bottle of wine or a limoncello spritz to-go and enjoy it with your feet in the sand. (Just remember to be respectful and pack out your trash!)

7. Catch Golden Hour from Your Balcony
If you’re lucky enough to be staying in one of Positano’s clifftop rentals or hotels with a view, don’t rush to leave. Sometimes the best thing to do in Positano at night is nothing at all. Open a bottle of wine, light a candle, and let the view do the work.
Our favorite VRBO stay:
Gema Suites – Abisso: This is where we stayed and it was absolutely perfect! Views, comfort, and a little terrace made it our favorite home base.
Other great options: Villa Sebastiana, Spectacular view, La Casa di Lucia, Historical 5-room-apt, or Villa Dolce.
Tori Tip: Look for rentals that include terraces or rooftop access. Sunset and stargazing from your room is next-level special.

8. Savor a Late Aperitivo
If dinner was early or you’re just not ready for bed, enjoy a late-night aperitivo at one of Positano’s quieter bars. These are great for a nightcap with fewer crowds than earlier in the evening.
Great places for a night drink:
- Rada Beach Bar – Slightly upscale and chic, right by the sea.
- Il Tridente Wine Bar – Cozy, refined, and romantic with a deep wine list.
Tori Tip: Italians take their time in the evenings. Don’t feel rushed. Linger, sip slowly, and enjoy the slower pace of Positano nights.
